GFC traveled to the Gladwyne Playground tonight for training. Junior Firefighter Richard Grant, assisted by Assistant Chief Remillard set up an air pack confidence course utilizing the playground equipment.
Firefighters donned their turnout gear and breathing apparatus but when they placed their air masks on, there was a cover over the mask to block out their vision (like in a real smoke filled fire). The evolution would be done strictly by feeling their way through and communicating with their partners. Multiple tasks were also completed throughout the course that would require the firefighter to do with their firefighting gloves on and again all by feeling their way through the task.
This was a great drill and allowed our members practice the strenuous work that takes place in a building fire without all the heat and smoke!
Training Never Stops!
