Gladwyne Fire Company was dispatched Sunday evening to a reported jet ski accident below the Flat Rock Dam on the Schuykill River.
First arriving units found an overturned jet ski abandoned with two passengers and a good Samaritan who attempted to save the stranded. Gladwyne's water rescue team immediately sprang into action. Given the uneven terrain and storm debris in the water, crews were unable to deploy boats safely. Overcoming that obstacle, members launched the Company's RDC (rapid deployment craft) which transported the victims safely to shore.
Once on shore, Narberth Ambulance transported the female victim to Lankenau Hospital with lower body injuries.
Belmont Hills, Penn Wynne and Spring Mill Fire Companies assisted with the intricate three hour rescue.
Sunday's event is a stark reminder that swimming and boating are PROHIBITED BELOW THE DAM.
