Tonight members gathered at the firehouse for training on our SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus or air packs). Assistant Chief's Remillard and McLean set up the "smoke machines" in the ladder bay and utilized all sorts of items to make hazards throughout the search area. Firefighters then had to perform searches of the area with no visibility only feeling their way around the bay. Other firefighters acted as victims and required rescuing by the searching firefighters. At the end firefighters were also instructed on removing their air packs to make their way through / under tight spaces all while still breathing air from the air pack.
