Gladwyne firefighters were dispatched at 1409 hrs. for a reported house fire on W Old Gulph Road. Based upon reports from Montgomery County Emergency Dispatched Center of smoke and flames from property, Station 24 had Station 25 dispatched as the 2nd due Company.
Two Lower Merion Township employees from the Sewer Department discovered the smoke and flames from the property while on duty. These two men so happen to be volunteer firefighters within the township -- Mike Keaveney, who volunteers with Bryn Mawr Fire Company (Station 23); and John Hofstetter who runs with Gladwyne Fire Company. The men stretched a hose line off their sewer truck which carries 1500 gallons of water and extinguished the fire. Lower Merion Fire Marshal's office is investigating the cause of the fire.
Congratulations and a job well done goes out to John Hofstetter and Mike Keaveney on their quick thinking and being in the right place at the right time! Good job men!
