Gladwyne's house bells and pagers sounded 7 times Saturday night into early Sunday morning as snow, ice, and rain rolled into the village. The first call came in at 1242 hrs on Saturday on Stony lane for a gas alarm, which determined to be a malfunctioning heater. Later in the evening at 2030 hrs the bells sounded again for an unknown type fire on Waverly road in area of Lafayette road. Due to the heavy winter mix of snow and rain the trees were falling into power lines, which caused the transformers to explode, and wires to catch fire on side of the road. Crews alerted PECO and cleared the scene.
The remaining calls came in at the early hours of Sunday morning, which were wires arcing, CO alarm, and another fire alarm all, caused by the storm. The final call for the busy 24-hour period at 0840 hrs Sunday morning was an accident with injuries on Schuylkill Expressway where Engine 24 assisted in blocking the roadway and providing protection to the EMS crews. Thank you to the Gladwyne Firefighters who came out and spent their time at the station answering all the calls!
