| Nearly 20 volunteer firefighters brought sleepover bags and food with expectation of a busy night as Hurricane Irene, a category one hurricane, began to batter the east coast and Montgomery County. It was just after 22:00 that the tones sounded for 24's first Water Rescue at the intersections of Harriton Roads and Old Gulf Road in Bryn Mawr. While on location the units rescued five persons from a taxi cab that couldn't drive through the already flooded area.
As the night continued, so did the rain and calls. Around five a.m. the station was dispatched to assist Station 29 in Whitemarsh Township, where according to news reports, the township was "a lake." Marine 24 could be seen live on Channel 6 Action News carrying two people out of their flooded home and to safety. To see the video, click the link below.
Gladwyne members responded to a total of 13 calls in the twenty-four hour period. Along with being dispatched the company also kept an watchful eye on local flooding such as the Mill Creek Ford and the Schuylkill River at River Road.
Thanks to all of the members who took time out of their lives, and away from their families during this historical weather event. A special thanks to Chief Leis, Assistant Chief Schwarz and McLean for the managing of the calls.
