The Gladwyne School is currently receiving a new roof and the equipment on site is operating as it is intended to do. The product within the containers needs to stay hot so that it can be applied to the roof.

If you are walking around the area and see steam or smoke coming from the trailers, it is normal. You can also smell the hot tar all around the school and adjoining areas.

This same work was performed at the Penn Valley Elementary School last year and there were multiple fire calls dispatched because people observed the steam/smoke and smelled the tar and were concerned that there was a problem.

We wanted to try to provide the information to our community before hand and try to eliminate any extra calls.

If you see flames from any of these trailers, that is NOT normal and you should dial 911 immediately to report it.
