We are proud to announce that Deputy Chief Andy Block has been selected as the new Superintendent of Police for Lower Merion Township!

After a Nationwide search, Andy was selected by the hiring committee, Township Manager and Board of Commissioners and was unanimously voted on last night at the Township Building.

Andy has been a life long public servant in Lower Merion and Narberth!

Andy’s early days were spent at Narberth Ambulance as an EMT where he also held many operational officer positions rising all the way to the Chief of the Ambulance for several years.

In 1988 Andy joined Gladwyne Fire Company and has been an active member ever since serving on the Board of Directors and as an operational officer and again rising through the ranks and serving as our Fire Chief for over 8 years. Andy also spent time running fire calls with the Merion Fire Company of Ardmore.

Andy’s career has always been in Law Enforcement. Starting in Avalon as a Summer Police Officer, Full Time Avalon Police Officer, Montgomery County Sheriffs Depatment, Plymouth Township Police Department and finally finding his long term home in Radnor Township where he retired as the Deputy Superintendent of Police.

Retirement life didn’t suit Andy for long, and was hired to be the Police Chief of Upper Moreland Township Police which is where he has been for the last 4 years.

It is not hard to see that Andy has spent his whole life serving the public and is a well respected leader thoughout the region. In addition to being a leader, Andy is also a mentor, roll model, educator and friend.

We would like to CONGRATULATE our friend and Deputy Chief Andy Block on his new position as the Superintendent of Police in Lower Merion Township. We are all very proud of you!

If you didn’t catch it above Andy will now have held the “Chief” of all three Public Safety entities within Lower Merion Township (Police / Fire / EMS).
