At Monday evenings Board Meeting, members of the Board finalized the installation of a Cadet Program.

The program will allow teenagers ages 14-16 years old to join Gladwyne Fire Company as Cadet members. They will train, familiarize, and gain knowledge of the fire service in an effort to rise into the position of Firefighter by age 18. Before Monday's passing by the Board, Gladwyne only had a Junior Program which allowed you to join at age 16. Cadet's will be limited in their abilities on a fire ground, but an invaluable asset to the Company during events and around the station. Spearheading the movement, Chief Blaine Leis has already inducted two Cadet's, Michael Hand and Justin Fusaro.

In recent years the Fire Department has seen a major decrease in recruitment. The Cadet Program is the latest campaign to recruit teenagers approaching High School, but not yet bombarded with increasingly busy schedules. Much like an after-school sport, the Fire Company provides physical training, teamwork, and a valid substance in a members life.

We look forward to the future of the program, and the future of this Company.
