| As many of us went to sleep Thursday night, pagers for the Gladwyne Fire Company began ringing with alerts of a dwelling on Youngsford Place in Gladwyne. Chief 24 and Ladder 24 arrived to the home with smoke showing from the roof and conflicting reports of either a basement or attic fire. The residents, who were awoken by their fire alarm and noticed a smoke condition when up, were evacuated safely.
Firefighters quickly went to work finding the fire using Thermal Imaging Cameras, that detect heat and fire behind structures such as walls. Once found, members began battling the fire and noticed it was traveling throughout the walls. With help from Ardmore Fire Company we were able to stop the spreading and extinguish the fire. Other assist companies included Bryn Mawr (23) and Belmont Hills as the FAST team.
The quick and stubborn fire is still under investigation by the Fire Marshals office. This is another tremendous example of how important smoke detectors are, so make sure you check yours regularly! |
