Gladwyne Firefighters Respond to Another Multi Alarm Apartment Building Fire
By Deputy Chief Blaine Leis
February 2, 2010
At approximately 2130 hours Station 25 (Ardmore) was dispatched to a fire alarm at the Hunter House Apartments on Montgomery Ave in Haverford. Just after dispatch multiple reports were coming in reporting smoke on the second and third floors. The call was then upgraded to the building fire response which added Station 23 (Bryn Mawr) to the call. Chief 25 arrived and confirmed smoke from the building which then brought the confirmed fire dispatch adding Rescue 21 (FAST) and Air and Engine 24 for the airbank and extra engine. On scene reports were coming across of entrapment in the fire building, Chief 25 added the next alarm which was the rest of Station 24. Upon arrival Gladwyne Firefighters assisted with throwing ladders on the exterior of the apartment building, and also searching the fire floor and above for victims. The fire was contained to one apartment. There was unfortunately a civilian fire death in this incident that is under investigation by the authorities. Gladwyne crews were back in service in the Village in less than 2 hours. We would like to thank our brothers from George Clay Fire Company for coming up and standing by in our station to protect our Village while we were busy helping out in Haverford.
