During Wednesday nights Township Board of Commissioners meeting, the Commissioners honored Ardmore Fire Chief, and Gladwyne firefighter, Tom Hayden. Chief Hayden received the heroism award following his life-saving actions during a June house fire in Villanova.

Narberth Ambulance Assistant Chief Robert Weber was given the Chiefs Award by Township Fire Chief Chas McGarvey for his role in helping to save the victims from the house fire as well.

On June 27th, 2012, Chief Hayden responded to a working house fire in Villanova. Upon arrival Chief was advised of two women inside the burning home. Hayden entered the building, rescuing the woman, and brought her outside to safety. Following the rescue, Tom was overcome by smoke, and fell unconscious in the families front yard. He was transported by Narberth Ambulance to HUP where he spent weeks in the ICU. After four months of recovery, Hayden returned to service this November.

There's no surprises here. Tom's just that kind of guy - selfless, admirable, and committed to his firehouse, and firefighters. We're proud to work beside Tom, and even happier for his achievement. Congratulations, Tom!
